New boat owner and new to boating. Just recently bought a 1989 Thompson 220 Carrera. Does anyone have any insightful information regarding this make/year of boats? I know the company is no longer in business, found that out after I purchased the boat. So far the only issues I've identified is a dripping carburetor and a fuel tank gauge that is not functioning. The previous owner just laid new marine grade ply decking last year and covered it all with linoleum. Has any one ever heard of this? Also, he never cut the access hole for the fuel sending unit. Would anyone happen to know where the access hole should be located?
Thanks all

Welcome aboard

Giant Red Flag with flashing red lights and sirens - Unfortunatly what you bought is referred to as a "deck-over"

where the Prior Owner slaps down a new deck over the rotten deck and stringers and dumps the boat on to an unsuspecting buyer

you will most likely find that your boat has a rotten deck, rotten stringers, rotten bulkhead and rotten transom.

Its a little late now, however here is the checklist for buying a boat: http://forums.iboats.com/forum/gene...eeding-help-buying-a-boat-a-buyer-s-checklist

you may want to check out the DIY links, specifically read link 14: http://forums.iboats.com/forum/boat...r/295740-how-to-s-and-other-great-information

the old 'slap a new deck over the old one' trick . . .

Best to take a look at the structure to see if there are signs of trouble.
