I have been having problems with a 2hp evinrude i got. I could not get it to run very well at all. It would run for a few minutes but i would have to feather the joke to get it to run that much. Then it would die and wouldnt restart untill several hours later or maybe the next day. I disassembled the carb. Cleaned it up and got the mixture screwes all out of whack. I would try to adjust them, but could not get it to run consistent or stay running very long. I was just about to give up on it when I noticed a little four letter word on top of the gas cap... VENT... i gave it a turn and it popped up... It started back up and ran. I adjusted the mixture screws and it runs great. Thanks to all of those that helped. I really learned some things with this ordeal...

My son did something similar, took my little dinghy out on the river trying to impress his new girlfriend, and forgot to take the oars so he just had the old Seagull to rely on. The engine died after about a minute in mid-stream. Half an hour later, about a mile downstream, and after much pulling on the starter rope he finally gave up, paddled to shore with his hands and called me on his mobile phone.<br />"Did you open the fuel tap?", "Yes of course I did!", "And the tank vent?", "The what....?"<br />Needless to say the girlfriend was not terribly impressed!

BTW, if you only open that vent a turn or two, eventually the vibration of the engine can cause it close. If you open it up all the way (so that it can't open further), that locks it so it can't close itself... At least that's how it mine is. I figured that out 'cause it would only troll nice for about 20-30 min's (time it took vent to close itself).<br /><br />good luck!<br /><br />Brent
