Johnsone 115 struggling to start

Bought a 115 Johnson 1981 model about a year ago in good shape. Problem however with the following. Starting cold - NO problem. When I switch the engine off for 5 to 7 minutes (engine warm at this stage) I struggle to get it running again. Takes about 5 to 6 attempts. When it starts, you can hear it first struggling to idle (3 to 5 seconds) and then only does it idle normally. Checks were done, i.e. carb float level readjusted to 1 and 1/8 inches, changed gaskets on the carbs, rechecked plug gaps, checked fuel filter and checked needle and seat for any dirt. I always use new clean fuel and outboard oil.<br /><br />Any ideas on why this happens will be appreciated.<br /><br />Regards

Welcome to iboats and it sounds like you're on the right track.<br /><br />I wonder if heat is boiling the gas out of the bowl and into the crankcase? How is your water pump? Or maybe one or more floats don't float so good anymore.

Try squeezing the fuel bulb before starting again warm. If bulb is soft, the check valves in the bulb may be leaking by causing fuel starvation. I know the fuel in the bowls should be enough to start, but I've seen stranger things.......<br />Also I've heard that the recirc lines and valves being clogged can result in poor restarts and idling problems.<br />Good luck

Thanks for the advice guys. Waterpump is in good shape - had the impeller and baseplate replaced within the last year. Float levels were way out, but were readjusted to 1 and 1/8 inch. After readjusting float levels, test was done, but still "warm" starting problem.<br />Will check the fuel bulb as adviced.<br /><br />Thanks
