Johnson won't start

The last time you put Oil in Gearcase, how did you fill it?

I put it into the bottom hole until it came out of the top hole, then put the screw back into the top hole before I removed the pump hose from the bottom hole to replace that screw. I put the bottom screw in last and motor was in a straight vertical position. I just talked to my mechanic. I ordered the parts for him to replace all the lower unit seals complete and a water pump replacement kit. He is charging me $300 labor and I will have the boat back the day after I take it to him. He said he will just need a one day notice after my parts come in (which should be this Saturday). All of the parts were $99.00 and they are all OME parts. So $400 total cost.

Thanks to everyone for your help on this matter. The engine runs like a top so it is really worth the investment to me for the repairs which I feel was a good deal price wise, but maybe not? Any thoughts?? (Whatever, it's a done deal anyway, but just wondering if it sounds fair or not to those that know) Thanks.

When You said only a few Ounces drained out, but no Water, I thought I should ask, in case you had tried filling it from the Top. I still find it odd that no Water was in the Case.
This is going to sound Pessimistic, while I like saving money by sourcing Parts myself, letting the Person doing the Work order the Parts is often a safer route. Not saying you are going to order the wrong Parts, but with the Mechanic ordering and installing the Parts, if there is an Issue after, he can't try to say it was because You supplied Incorrect or poor Quality Parts....

I understand this, however, I think he wanted me to order the parts because there are absolutely no numbers or markings on my motor at all. I think I posted this in my original post, and he probably did not want to order parts for a motor that I am not even sure what it is, so I can understand why he wanted me to order parts because of this. As I stated previously that I think at one time or another, this was a motor that was stolen from someone at some time, and ALL of the motor's I.D. is gone!! No tags, no plates no little discs, etc. etc. to I.D. the motor. So if it's the wrong parts, I eat them, not him eating them. However, the parts that I ordered will fit Johnson motors from 1980 - 2005 and 20, 30 or 35 H.P. so I think I am o.k. He sent me a link on what parts to get and where to order from. He works out of his backyard and does not stock hardly any parts at all, but he is good and treated me really good for the past repairs he did for me on other motors. Thanks.
Note: Yes, when I first drained the few ounces of oil from the gearcase originally, there was no water at all. It was damn near empty. Just like today after I ran the boat in the lake, I again drained the oil and behind the prop was a lot of oil, but the oil I drained had absolutely no milky look at all. It looked like it did when I put it in, but yet, oil leaked out from the seal behind the prop.
