Just received motor back from shop, new powerhead, placed on water hose and noticed the cooling water was intermittent. Impeller was replaced while at shop. Removed hose from block and water came out w/ good volume, hose ok, what type pressure should I expect from here. (1990 johnson 175 gt)

It sounds like your thermostat is opening and closing. I dunno about the pressure specs.
Normally, water is allways in the powerhead's cooling jacket. But when you change-out the impeller or T-stat, it sometimes drains the entire jacket, and it pulses to start-out with until the jacket is purged of air. But air will leak-by the T-Stat in pulses as the pressure builds up from the water behind it. It should quit doing that after a minute or two.If it doesn't,check the t-stat.

------------------
Time to change my tagline
