Johnson V4 115 '95 or '96 starter wiring

I replaced my starter and kept the old solenoid. When I got it all back together I turned the ignition and the motor tried to turn over once but then nothing after that. Doesn't make a sound now. The engine lights and the beeper on the dash no longer work when the ignition is on. I think I got a wire wrong and blew the solenoid or maybe a fuse?

About the wiring... Aside from the main battery cables there are 3 red wires and 2 black wires. I thought the black wires connected to the ground post on the starter and the red to the solenoid. That is how I hooked it back up when the problem occured. Suggestions?

Run battery jumper cables directly to the electric starter. This will tell the tale if the problem is with the starter or elsewhere,

The main fuse in the engine wiring harness may have blown. It's an inline 20 am fuse. An automotive type blade fuse. In the wiring harness under the cowling, close to the starter solenoid. If it goes, the engine goes dead. Handy to carry a spare at all times.

Only one heavy wire from solenoid to starter post. May be black or red. Other small black wires go to ground on block or starter mounting bolt.

Thanks for the advice everyone. A buddy of mine came over and took a look. He found a couple of wires with nicks in them that I hadn't seen and we taped those up and wired it the same way I had it and it started right up. Probably nicked them trying to get the starter in and out which was a pain.
