Johnson Trim Failure

The power trim/tilt has stopped working on my Johnson outboard (model J115ELEOC).

When I took it out of storage the motor was tilted all the way up, and I did not leave it that way when I put it into storage so something happened with it.

I found the 2 relays that control the power tilt and found that one of them was melted, but the other looks OK, and even clicks when I attempt to activate it.
However, the tilt motor does not even sound like it is trying to turn.

I will get a new relay (two to make sure), but is there something else that I am missing here?
Is there a fuse that may be blown that is preventing the tilt motor from activating?
Is it likely that the tilt motor is burned out?

Thanks!

Re: Johnson Trim Failure

I would think the relay would go before the motor. They don't generate much heat and don't usually just burn out. Sounds like it somehow started cycling up and wouldn't stop. Replace the relay, check fluid, and get back to us after that.

Re: Johnson Trim Failure

Thanks Seaman! I replaced both the relays and the power trim now works. I was concerned I would have to replace the motor.
