Hi,

My 2000 JOHNSON 2-STROKE SERIES J40TPLSS starts fine and runs fine however it stalls after a brief time.

Only by manually squeezing the ball to pump fuel does it run at higher speeds without stalling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Johnson stalls/fuel pump?

The fuel pump is certainly a suspect, jharp, but not a certainty.

Other, quicker and cheaper to fix, possibilities are:
Tank vent restricted, tank pickup restricted, fuel line pinched or restricted, air leaks at fuel line connections and, if it has one, a sticking anti-siphon valve in the tank outlet.

I would definitely check those out before I started in on the fuel pump.

Good luck. :)
