Hi, have just recently brought a Johnson sea horse 15 hp Model No: J15BACTA Serial No: BO29275, and would like to ask a few questions about this outboard before I go ahead and repair it.

1: How old is the Outboard
2: what should the fuel/oil mix be
3: I have tried to start the out board and I have noticed the compression seems to be low so much so that you can spin the fly wheel with your finger which leads me to think that to piston rings could be worn, I removed the head gasket cleaned up the area which the old one came from and used a instant gasket just to see if this had an improvement to the compression which it did not, Could my problem be the rings or could it be something else.? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the advice i will get a manual and have a go at a repair, one quick question, i am going to give the whole engine an overhaul can you buy the gaskets that i need in one complete kit or do you have to buy them separately.?

Thanks

The general rule is a powerhead gasket kit includes everything but the head gasket which must be purchased separately. Your situation may differ.
