I need help. My dad passed away and had an old Johnson Sea Horse motor. We think it is a 5 horse but are not sure as it doesn't tell on it. The numbers on it are 4-3-C-242. Any idea how old it is and what it is worth?

i can't track that number. look on the top of the motor itself, there should be a silver circle about the size of a quarter. it should have numbers on it.

We looked further and found a booklet with the motor that says HD 25 or HD 2.5 and the numbers 568890. Is this the model number? Any idea of the age and value of the motor? Thanks.

Welcome to Iboats, Cheen.

HD-25 are 2.5hp engines built between '46 and 1950. That serial number pins it down to 1947 if you're interested.

I hate to tell you, but due to the popularity and longevity of these outboards and the frugalness of collectors, they don't have much value. But they are good running outboards and a number are still seeing regular service.
