Gonna try to replace the fuel line with a rubber hose .. is that smart?

Yes, it's a good idea... BUT, I would first try to blow out the old copper fuel line ;).

By the way, you did a nice job on that welch plug :).

id also look into a couple of other things fuel delivery related . first you mentioned that it took a few minutes to get 500ml of fuel out of the line? .....sounds like the scintered metal filter in the tank is partially plugged, second....i notice in the first pic of the carb, it still has the old cork gasket ( located in the center of the float in that pic). when you set the float bowl onto the carb body, that gasket should keep it from mating until you snug the screws down.....if it doesnt, that could be another issue and need to be replaced.

About the cork gasket, I think it actually works. Had to press a bit to get the bowl and body together, if that's what you ment :)
Gonna investigate the metal filter tomorrow..

Thanks everyone for your input and quick response!

Already tried blowing in the fuel-line :/
I don't own a compressor, so I used something called dust-off.
It's compressed air in a can.

I used nail polish to seal the welch plug :p read somewhere that it works

Another tip (I was working on the same carb today) blow out the passage from the high speed needle. There's a very little hole (about 0.5mm, you can see it if you hold it in the light), blow out that hole ;).

What size of the hose should I use for a fuel-line?
Does it matter if it's wider than the original?

I think the size is 4 or 5 mm... and yes, it does matter when the fuel line is wider, it's gonna leak :D.

It's running!

Though the fuel leaks ALOT. so I'm pretty sure that's the reason why it's running badly.
I'm also gonna check that filter in the tank.

.... and maybe you could adjust the points (at 0.5mm), that might be the reason the motor runs badly ;).

Yeah, I have the same problem on almost all my tank filters, they are hard to come out... I would first try to adjust the points at exactly 0.5mm, maybe your motor runs great after resetting the points and are all problems solved. If the points were the problem, then you don't have to clean the filter in the tank anymore ;).

Still want it to come out so I can replace the leaking fuel shut off valve and copper line..

I don't dare to heat it right?

What points should I adjust?

I discovered that if you hold the dust-off can upside-down it sprays really cold air, I think I managed to shrink the metal and I got them out.. The filter-part is empty?

Yes I see... weird, according to the parts manual I sent you, there should be a filter.
On page 4 of the parts manual you can see the points (#11). It's simple: remove the flywheel and then you adjust the two points at exactly 0.5mm.
Maybe this video helps you ;): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofmrcjuD9d8&feature=plcp
And here's another good link for removing the flywheel and points adjustment: http://www.outboard-boat-motor-repa...on 3 HP 1952-1967 Ignition System Tune-up.htm

Keep us posted :)!

I've decided to try and fix the original copper line..
Been in 5 different stores, no one has nipples etc that fit.

It should work if I make my own silicone gaskets or something like that right (using resistans silicone which can withstand fuel)?

Replacement parts ARE available for that motor. Try the want-ads at AOMCI.org.

Yeah, but parts are not available in Sweden, and I'm not in the mood to wait forever for a shipment ;)

either the filter is rattling around in the tank , or someone has pulled it off its fitting. you may want to switch to the proper sized fuel line line, get a shut off valve for a lawnmower/snowblower and an inline filter, that way yer done with that part of troubleshooting the motor.
