Johnson pinion shim selection

I am rebuilding a lower on a '81 Johnson 60hp J60ELCIA short lower. I have seen the procedure for using a gauge to check pinion height and select the correct shim. My pinion was trashed and I have replaced all gears and bearings. Because everything is new I want to measure and install the correct shim. I do not have the gauge but I have excellent measuring equipment since I am an auto tech.

I need to know the correct measurement from the bearing race to the top of the pinion gear. Can someone refer me to a chart or can someone measure the gauge? Thanks!

Re: Johnson pinion shim selection

I have the same problem with a 225 1994, If you find out please let me know.
I measured the old one, but would like to make sure I do it right. Same thing with the pinion bearing depth!
