Johnson Paint

Hi, I need some paint to get my engine looking nice. It's a 1980 V4 so everything is White.

I want to paint:
* lower unit (aluminium)
* cowling (plastic)
* Engine block (iron)

It says "for aluminum surfaces", should I get a different paint for the block and cowling?

ok my mistake. So use that paint for all of it? I guess I need a primer for the plastic bits but the aluminium parts and steel bolts can all be direct to metal?

IMO a good zinc primer on the lower unit is a good idea.

Clean it super good, sand and scuff up the existing paint, marine primer on all bare metal. Then numerous coats of desired marine paint. Clear coat.

Paint, 90 percent prep 10 percent paint.

Does this paint need a laquer on top? Is there an OEM laquer?

The finish is extremely glossy and in my opinion a top coat isn't needed.

Should I use a primer when applying to the engine block and/or the lower unit? How about when painting the cowling?

Prime bare metal, otherwise scuff the existing paint.
