Johnson outboard v4 year ?

I have an old Johnson v4 outboard i think its a 115hp the only number i can find is on the freeze plug (welsh plug) on the top of the block and its 40130891 - the I.D plate is missing i am trying to find out what year this motor is can any one help.

That's a mighty high serial number. Sure you don't have an extra digit snuck in there?

That serial number is not in the Bombardier dealer serial database. If you can't locate any other relevant data, you may be able to decide what engine you have on your own. The Bombardier parts list website: epc.brp.com can be used to compare the parts visually on your engine with all the parts lists/exploded diagrams from the manufacturer back to 1968. Some of the parts on your powerhead (like the heads) have part numbers on them that can be identified in these factory parts lists and will help you find out the approximate year.

a good way to let us help you is post a picture of the cover...and then one of the motor with no cover. even a picture of the carbs could help..pin down the year. for parts replacement, many motors have interchangable parts over a large number of years, so getting close maybe all you need.

Thanks the information has been great it turns out that the motor is the old school 1975 model.
