johnson idle/vro problem

MY motor is a 1998 johnson 200hp oceanrunner. I purchased it about two months ago and it has run really well ever since then. I recently removed the oil connection (VRO) and plugger it off so that I could premix my own fuel and oil. I also changed the spark plugs, foot oil, and water fuel seperator.....The motor seems to be running quieter and smoother than ever but the problem is..... At idle speeds the motor will only run for about 15 min and cut off. It dosent spit or sputter or anything, just cuts off like it is choked for fuel. It cranks right back up every time and it can be avoided if i pump the buld as soon as i think its going bad. It runs really well at any other speed better than ever... Sometimes it will choke off from idle to fast acceleration as well but that too can be avoided if i were to pump the ball. Someone mentioned to me that i might have air in my lines and that the factory hose clamps from johnson were pretty crappy. and someone else mentioned that I might have some junk in one of my carbs. Any help would be much appreciated. Bottom line is it didn't have this problem until I changed the VRO and the Water/fuel seperator.....Thanks for any suggestions

Re: johnson idle/vro problem

well it could be either of the 2 things you mentioned, changing the hoses around could have broken gunk loose and it has gotten to carb, or the fuel lines could be leaking. also did you block the oil line with a bolt and clamp? if not it could be letting air in. pumping the bulb leads me to fuel pump failure or air leak.
also did you service the water pump?

Re: johnson idle/vro problem

thank you so much for your reply. I replaced the hose clamps today and it seemed to do the trick. running great. aparently it was the air in the lines. I will post again if I need help. This seems to be a great forum for exchanging knowledge. Thanks again.....
