Make sure all battery and solenoid connections are clean and tight; they need to be shiney bright. Is battery fully charged?

You may also have some ign probs with the mtr where the mtr doesn't fire on all the cyls when starting and "fools" the starter mtr telling it to kick out.

Jump start the starter with a set of automotive jumper cables to a battery that is know to have a good charge. If the starter performs normally, you may have a bad solenoid.

That happens when motor fires and then dies, sometimes due to inadequate choking. Choke the crap out of her, and see if that helps. If she won't fire while being choked, let off on the choke, and she should fire and hopefully start right up.
