i went to the lake the other day and put my boat on the trailer and then come to find out that my motor would not trim up. it makes noise when i try to trim it down but will not move anymore because the unit was all the way down at the time, but it makes no noise at all when i try and trim the unit up.

i had to pull it off the ramp with the unit down, release the hydraulic fluid to release the pressure so i could raise it up manually.

so now i am lost at what to do i need to refill the fluid and im not sure as what to use (its a 1988 johnson gt 150) or how to refill it. and im confused at why it makes noise like it will go down but not when i try to trim it up. maybe a bad relay?? but i dont know what to do first any help would be great:confused:

Re: Johnson GT 150 Tilt Trim/Hydraulics problem

I use tranni fluid, they seem to like it.

Fill the reservoir to overflowing, replace cap and try.
Try swapping the relays, there is usually 2.
Try jumping the relay with wire.
