The exact throttle setting is normally just slightly above idle, my last two started better without touching the throttle until it started.

There may also be a cold start lever on top of the controls, this needs to be lifted up for better starting. Again, exact position can be motor specific.

Lots of good information above. One thing I think worth clarifying is the idea of pushing in the key switch more than once. Just so you understand this refers to a motor which has started. If it sounds as though it is about to die you push the key again to richen the fuel/air mix. You might have to do this a few times to a cold engine and not at all once the engine has warmed up. That's how it is with my 95 - 40 hp Johnson. Best of luck. Rick.
