I have what I believe is a 115hp Johnson which is probably pieces from several years. The model number is gone but the serial number on the block appears to be 4070659. Any ideas what year and hp it is? Thanks.

to my knowledge you can tell nothing from the serial #.. Sometimes there is a model # on top of the head on a round plug it should start with J115 or something close to that..maybe its an evinrude so could be E115 or instead of 115 it could be a 110 or 100 or 90 or 85 if you are not sure of the HP. I have a 100 Johnson that I brought from a local backyard outboard mechanic that he sold me as an Evinrude 115..he painted the motor to match a cowl he had.

Evinrude E112TXSXED. This is a 112 hp crossflow from 1996.

Given a valid serial number, any Bombardier dealer can look up the information. The 3771212 number does not come up as a valid serial #.

Most crossflows have a round quarter-size casting plug on the top of the block. It is usually painted over, but often contains the model and serial number. The information on this plug matched the serial id tag on the transom bracket when shipped from the factory. The model number is most helpful and indicates all the useful information you need for your engine. Some may have the serial number only. The serial number requires factory information, which is a little more obscure to most of us.
