johnson dies at idle

I have a 76 johnosn 55hp that dies at idle and when you try to put it in gear. it seams the idle is to low what should it be set at and how do you check it and set it? the carbs were just cleaned out and the plugs replaced. when you get it off idle it runs good.

AC,<br /><br />750 rpm at dead idle-in gear.<br /><br />The idle adjustment is at the top of the thottle linkage where it meets the timing plate-right under flywheel.
