I recently purchased a 1991 Johnson 9.9 w/ alt., elect. start, and remote controls (white metal box). I have all motor manuals but nothing on the remote unit. Is there a seperate manual/instructions? More specifically, what do the alarms mean? Why does the ignition switch push in and effect the idle?
Any help is greatly appreciated... Thanks!
Rob

Re: Johnson Controls

Mornin Rob....

If you have the service manual, there is a section in there on the control box. If you don't have the service manual, consider getting one.

Your engine speeds up when you push the key in because thats how you activate the choke or in your case the primer solenoid. When starting cold, you would raise the cold start lever, turn the key to on, push in and turn the key to start. Once engine starts, release the key. You should not have to use the choke again.

If the engine is equiped with a over heat sensor, you will have one alarm for over heat which will be a continuous tone should the engine over heat. Oh...and when you turn the key to "on", the horn module will give you a short tone just to let ya' know it's working.

Hope we've helped.
