Did you disconnect the kill wire? Maybe you did.

Jostling kill switch?
Funny story thier!
It had actually disconnect itself at some point on its on.
When i made my first stop motor would not turn off , so i choked it down to stop it the rest of day .
It still died when hitting the normal boat wake as usual.
I did find find the break at a crimp connector on the ground wire.
Thanks for the thought.

Well if that wire is bad, how many others.......?
Exactly ! This issue is probably why i got it Cheap!
The previous owner had just finished rewiring the whole console , new gauges , new ground terminal blocks but everything is spliced into the original wiring harness from the motor and its pretty shabby looking.
I am going to try and go to the river this weekend and run it in gear still strapped down the the trailer and wiggle wires and tap electronics to see what happens.
Thanks for the ideas

The wiring harness from the motor is only to be used for the motor and tachometer !!-----No radio / fish finder or other stuff at all.

I have already removed that stuff from the harness and i ran my own wires with switches and fuses.
I did that after hitting a boat wake and it bogging down about 3 times ago.
I could have missed something , the console door is pretty small for me to lay on my side and get in. Lol.
When the weather cools i plan to plan to do my own rewiring on the present nightmare it is, may even have to do it while its Hot

I might have said it already, it was just unplug the motor from the control box and jump it at the solenoid. You'll need a way to shut it off but take it out see if it does it with it unplugged from the control box. You're trying to isolate the situation to a more manageable area. I didn't read the whole thread again so not sure if you've already tried that, excuse me if you did.

Are you sure your motor used up 3 gallons going to the boat launch ? The Choke valve would need to be almost closed for that usage to happen. Check all of your Choke linkage and Thermostatic Coil for correct action when cold and hot.

What is the model # of this problem motor ???-----A thermostatic coil might exist on a 1964 model !!!-----There may not be choke flappers or choke linkages on a 1990 model !

J9OTLETS a few people here have said it was a jet drive at some point in its life.
I think it is a 1993 model.
No choke flaps on it . It has a primer valve.
Just to clarify a statment i made .
I said in a previous post when the switch would not stop motor i choked it down, but in reality i flooded it out to stop it .
Sorry for my wrong statement
Thanks for any help

Why did the switch not work? Wait I reread so hmmmmm....

Please send a picture of the power head where the big plug is. (Plug into harness to control box)

We all might be able to help if we can see the condition of the outboard under the cowling.

Are you referring to the big red connector plug ? On the wiring harness ?
Hitting a boat wake is the only time it bogs down under speed.
I have checked inside every plug connection on the motor and nothing has been corroded.
Depending on when the rain starts tomorrow i plan to take it to the river in the morning and run it while its on the trailer around 3,000 rpm and wiggling wires and tapping all the modules to see if i can create the bogging down situation from the center console , wiring under the deck to the motor then the motor.
I will get the picture then since my boat is at a storage yard a ways off.
Thanks for the help

If you start the motor and disconnect the red plug, run it around the lake hitting wakes, logs and old people and see if it recreates the issue. If it doesn't, it's north of the motor.

Warning alarms won't work and you will have to plug it in to turn it off.

Ha Ha
I already do that to rude boaters and jet skiers, when i catch them stopped after trying to sink me when they go by. I dont hit old people cause i one!
The rive is the only thing close and its too shallow to run the boat.
Thats why i gonna run it on the trailer in gear. I plan to block the tires and use emerncy brake to make sure i dont damage the park dog in my transmission.
Only downside is how many boats want to use the ramp.
Closest lake is 35 miles, i will take it thier if needed.

Hi
Well the boat dock full of people fishing so i had to unload it at the worst ramp thier is. As i was running my little motor to keep from hitting a rock with the big motor about 50 yards down the river i looked back at dock and everyone was gone what the heck.
Well i ran it into a log with boat facing up river tied it off good!
Cranked right up warmed it up ran in forward gear at 2000 rpm for 10 minutes thats more than it would do at the lake after i hit a tiny boat wake. Ran it to 4000 rpm in forward gear for 20 minutes, not missing a beat.
Started inside console wiggled ever wire nothing happened.
Toggled all rocker switches
Pounded on gauge panel
Jumped on top of gas tank
All that ran Great.
Pulled and shook wires running through hull all the way back to motor
Ran Great
Wiggled beg red plug.
Wiggled all plug connectors
Wiggled all wires
Unplugged temp sensors grounded both sensor wires coming out of harness nothing happened! No over temp alarm either.
Took big cresent wrench and tapped cdi box , trigger assembly
Starter silenoid < yeah cant spell either. And every other relay box
All ran Great No issues.
Only thing i forgot to check was to work trim angle sensor back and forth real fast.
The gauge does read opposite and tach stops working after awhile.
So i put it back on the trailer.
Raining every day this week so i wont make it to the lake so i can run over my own wake to see what happens.
