Hello i have a 1996 johnson 9.9 that wont start. When i turn the key to the on an alarm sounds (solid beep) alarm continues if you try to crank the motor, and it wont turn over. This is the first time trying the motor this year. Been in storage all winter. Ive checked all the fuses, checked for loose wires, and also checked for corrosion or split wires.

The motor is a 2 stroke mix my own fuel, mounted on a bass tracker tourntment tx with morse controls.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ok so i went back to the barn to play with it tonight. Shifter is in neutral and kill switch is plugged in. Turned the key to start and nothing. Battery was freshly charged. Check all fuses and wires again Everything is good. next i turned the key to on and went and pull started it. Fired right up, and turned off when i turned the key to off. Any ideas why it wont start with the key. Checked both the starter and solenoid Too.

key on, touch a jumper from pos to starter solenoid, should hear it click and crank. if it does then trace your problem back towards ignition, then back to battery one section at a time, with the voltmeter until you should be able to locate it pretty quick. sometimes i find just moving stuff around back and forth back and forth will loosen up crusty contacts in your ignition, shifter assembly, kill switch mechanism, etc. (press in the button on your shifter before you go back and forth) good luck.
