Johnson 88 Charging System

Can anyone advise if a 1992 Johnson 88 outboard has a regulated or unregulated charging system?<br /><br />Thanks

Regulated. It's on top of the block between the cylinders and slightly under the flywheel.

All of the 92 88's Ive seen has a rectifier only. Small round deal with 3 wires on the starboard side. The rest of the V4's that year came with the water cooled reg/rec.<br /><br />You can add the reg/rec easily enough if yours doesnt have it already. Someone may have already.

Thanks. I'll take a look and see which it is. Do you have a guess what the costs are to add the regulator if it is not there?

Iam having the same problem. I have a 1995 Jonhnson model J88TSLEO 88HP and its putting out 17 volts at 3/4 trottle. It has the small round rectifier with three wires on it connected to the terminal block. I would like to install a voltage regulator or a rectifier/ regulator, whatever it needs.Can anybody tell me what I need and how to wire it in?
