I have a Johnson 70 hp outboard 1980 model. How much oil do I need for a gearbox oil change ? Also found small amount of milky light brown fluid coming out of centre of prop. area when flushing using ears The gearbox oil does not have any water in it but is black in colour. The unit has not been in the water for approx. 4 months but has been started/flushed for 5 minutes every week. Would appriciate any suggestions. Thank you.

I don't know the exact volume, but it will be close to 14ounces.
The milky brown goo is unburnt fuel, and is a nasty (but very normal) side effect of 2cycle outboards.
It sounds to me like you are taking good care of her.

Milky white could be an accumulation of engine oil and water. especially if you haven't had it in the water for a long time.I think your gear-box holds around 25 oz. (750ml) Do yourself a favor and buy the hand pump your dealer.(around $20.00) With that you can run a return line from the vent hole back to the oil jug and for sure you'll purge all the air when changing gear oil, and you won't waste a drop. ;)
