I have been working on my recently purchased " very used " Johnson 70 ? HP motor and have had a few electrical problems. While out on the water the engine died, no spark on any of the 3 cylinders, so I replaced the power pack CD3 ignition. It ran baaaaadly, misfired and sputtered. I know I hooked the unit up just like the last one.
There is also wires on the engine that have 1, 2 or 4 wire connectors that do not connect to anything. Plus there are many splices in the other wires ( some change color ) going to the trim tilt relay connector box, power pack ( CD3 ) and voltage regulator. I think that a replacement of the large 8-pin connector (pigtail harness), trim tilt connector box and relays and the voltage regulator ( and possibly the stator ) should be in order. The problem is that I do not know the year of the engine, I have purchased both the Seloc 1973 - 1991 and Clymer 1991 - 1994 repair manuals but none of the wiring diagrams match mine.
On the engine the date stamped core plug is missing but there is a "9" underlined in the bottom and the date plate has been removed.
The only information I have is :

Block # 340899
Cylinder Head # 339221
Intake Manifold # 336343-D3
It has "SV" Carburetors, a VRO oil/fuel pump but the oil tank and wiring has been removed.

Is it possible to find out the year and HP of the engine from these numbers and the parts numbers also ?
