johnson 6hp couldn't start

went out fishing when engine suddenly slowed. found that water pump not working. killed the engine to check but couldn't start it back. send it for repair but was told it needed an overhaul.<br />there were sparks with both spark plugs and fuel is okay. Help & advice needed for this 1972 6 hp Johnson seahorse. thanks

Check the compression first to get an idea of how healthy the cylinders are. Might be worth pulling the head to check the condition of the bores as well.

you are right. it was low compression the main cause. thanks for your advice and i shall send it in for repairs.
