I have a 90hp Merc that had a bad sneeze when I bought it, when I first started fiddling with it it sneezed hard and blew the fuel line off the inline filter between the fuel pump and carbs. I had just checked the filter and hadn't put the clamps back on the fuel line because I was going to be taking it apart again in a few minutes.

The fuel pump was activated off the sneezing cylinder and it over pressurized the fuel pump.

don't know any thing about reed valves, but had a lean sneeze once that blew core plug off my top carb, never did find it.
while carbs are off, gently poke a small hole in plug and pry it off, poke small wire through holes inside, new plugs come in carb kits or separately ( i like spares), put in place dome up, put a 3/8in. extension on it, give one good tap to cave in dome, and you set. do you have a service manual for you engine yet?

Hi. I have some kind of service manual that I got for $10 or so but it seams to be for all Johnsons not just the 55. Is there one specific you would recommend?

Factory manuals are best of course, look online might find a free one, and of course this has them

I have now tried to clean and clean and it looks so clean but still does not run well on the lower cyl.

Then I removed the idle jet and then it runs fine, a bit fat I guess but atleast I now are on the right track.

thanks everyone.
