My motor (1972 50 hp) starts and runs properly. However, it does not turn off when I turn the key to the "off" position. It continues to run until I remove its fuel supply and runs out of gas.

I was told that the blocking diode was likely the problem, so I replaced it. This has made no difference.

It might be necessary to note that I use the technique discussed in this forum, http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=175907, to bypass the original shift switch in the remote control using a toggle switch.

Remove the kill wire (black with yellow tracer) from the power pack and ground the power pack side to ground, does it kill the engine? If it does you need to check out the kill circut, it is not grounding out when you turn the key to off.

Thanks. Grounding the black/yellow lead on the power pack turned the motor off, so I'll check the kill circuit.
