johnson 50 hp outboard

can anybody help me i have recently bought a boat with a johnson 50 hp outbourd on it took it down to local river on sat it was 40 degrees water temp was 28 degrees was going fine the the overheat alarm went of slowed motor down to cool down but then when cooled down it wouldnt go on full throtle it sounded like one of the clynders had cut out but when i got boat home and washed out motor out it sounded like it was working properly,does this have a cut out switch to prevent damage.not sure what year motor but it is pre 2000 but after 1995 i think

Plate is on the transom bracket, port side.

it certainly is rare when the water temps in winter are colder than the air temps....must be salt water.......:eek:

in any case do those motors have a S.L.O.W feature? 1995-2000

to the OP motors at home on the muffs can sound fine, when in fact under load they can act just like your motor did out on the 28 degree water!! sorry had to throw that in there .....( the water temps again)

is it a tiller or remote?

does it have a systems check tach?
