Johnson 50 hp. charging system up grades?

Hello all,<br /> I own a 20ft. Pontoon w/an 83' Johnson 50 hp. w/4.5 amp charging system, I have a 12v Igloo cooler that I'd like to keep on the boat, but draws the same amps, 4.5amps!<br /> Is there a charging up-grade that I can install that will increase my charging out-put so I can run the engine, the cooler an keep the battery(s)(2) charged?

hey fellow florida boater. shouldnt a second battery handle this fine, such as a deep cycle or trolling battery. drawing 4.5 amps really is nothing at all... i can run my stereo for hours at a time on my john boat and i have no charging system.... just recharge after each use... any why not just use a cooler with ice. i have that same cooler as you...and i like the old fasj=hioned style better.<br /> just my two cent$

I do have 2 batterys, 1 is stand by, I swap out the battery cables if necessary, I.E dead battery<br />I've never had one knock on wood!<br />Igloo says that I should not let the cooler (56qt) run for more then 3 hrs. at a time, it will/can cause the battery to run dead< their test!?<br />I go out for 2-3 days at a time! I live up here in Live Oak Fl. on the upper Suwannee river,Ice don't stay ice after 9am day #2 so I need some 21st century technology!

i have a igloo cooler, bought at walmart, that keeps ice " ice" for 5 days straight in 90+ degrees... it was only 30 bucks. hows THAT for 21 century technology!?!?!?!?!!!!
