Hi

I a have a simple question re a 1996 4hp Johnson serial: BJ4BREDS

I order a manual a few weeks ago still has not arrived.

Could anyone let me know the position that the cut off and choke lever should be in for start up (decals missing)

It pulls out and turns 90 degrees to the right.

I'm guessing that it should be pulled out to allow fuel to flow and turned to the right for choke on? (the reason I ask about the choke is that all the clips that hold the top cover on are broken so had to use cable ties to keep the top cover on) would this be correct?

Re: Johnson 4hp simple question

turning at 3 oclock position= valve open , puling out =valve on and choke on
pulling back =chocke off
turning at 6 oclock position=valve off

Since posting I found this picture online:

Don't have my motor to hand its in the boat 200 miles away! From the pic there does not seem to be a 6 o'clock position. As I recall there is a 12 o'clock position and a 3 o'clock one and pushed in / pulled out.

As far as I can see from the picture the 12 o'clock position is fuel on?

yes, in this newer one: 3 oclock=valve off, 12 oclock =valve open,(if you pull out at 12oclock=choke on)
