Can you check the model number, can't see to cross it.
Have you checked the compression and spark? Will it fire up if you squirt fuel into the carb?

It is a 1976 model # should be 4R76M with the standard drive gear case.
Does it have spark? What plugs did you put in recommended is Champion J6C. Your low idle should be adjusted 1 1/2 turns out from bottom the same with the high speed. You have the plug wires on the right cylinders? They don't like being reversed.

no not yet. its definitely 4BR76M model number. It starts now but will only keep running if choke is still out? Also it seems like its getting a bit hot? Not alot of water running out of small holes? Cheers

"Cheers"
U.K ?
The "B" in the model number means it's made in Belgium. In 1976.

Wouldn't it be great if people would list their location.

Have a look through the Top Secret File. Lots of good information on things to check and some good instruction as well. Post questions as they come to you. First thing I would recommend is to check the compression. To many sink a bunch of time and parts into a motor only to find they have internal $$$$ problems not worth fixing. I'm not suggesting your motor is pouched just being cautious. Indeed it is probably a fine motor as many 4 HP's older that your's are still running like new. Parts are very available, at least in North America they are. Best of luck. Rick.
