While run at 3/4 throttle engine suddenly free wheeled, pulled down throttle and set in nuetral. Shifted back in to forward and seemed to be okay, I check shear pin later it was fine. I was in 15' of water at the time of the problem.
May be getting worn down lobes on shift dawg and forward gear teeth. If the slipping out of gear persists it will need attention.was this just a one time occurrence or has it slipped out before?Always make sure when you shift an outboard in gear from neutral that it is shifted briskly into gear as to not grind and wear away at the lobes of the gear teeth.Of course this engine is an older vintage and I'm sure it's seen its share of shifting.
