JOHNSON 40 HP. ESL69R. WILL NOT PUMP WATER.

I HAVE A 40 HP JESL69R 40 HP JOHNSON 1969. WILL NOT PUMP WATER WITH THERSMOAT INSTALLED. WITH THERSMOAT OUT WILL PUMP JUST
FINE. HAVE INSTALLED NEW IMPELLER NO LUCK SAME SITUATION. ENGINE RUNS FINE, NEW PLUGS, COMPRESSION BOTH CYL. 102 TO 105.
WHAT WOULD BE MY NEXT STEP?? i DID INSTALL A NEW STAT. SAME PROBLEM.

Gary no chance you installed backwards I hope also my 140 has a little hole beside the stat that let's a little water come through to heat the stat up if it gets stopped up stat won't open . hope this helps​ :joyous:
