HI I have a 1964 johnson 3hp jhl19a I recently bought online. I started checking it out a little today and noticed it's hard to turn one or way or the other. Not the engine turning over, the whole motor turning right and left. Any suggestions?
Have you tied slackening off the friction adjustment screw?
Maybe lubrication of the swivel has been neglected and it is time to take it apart clean it up re-grease and check that the lubricator fitting is clear .
have to agree with the preceeding reply. Fortunately, that model is easy to take apart to clean the corrosion and/or old caked-up grease out. Simply remove the 8 screws holding the rear half of the swivel, and you will have the whole greasy mess in your hands to examine.
