1982 Johnson 35hp longshaft ropestart J35BALCND
Hi all,I recently aquired this engine and replaced the throttle control pinion(303142) and the throttle control spring(321721) as both were missing.I did a link & sync and checked the wot timing using the Joe Reeves method.The problem I have is the mark shows up under the timing light about 2" to the right of where I think it should be(inline with the centre of the pullcord).If I move the throttle so the roller is between the 2 marks on the timer base and re test the mark shows at the centre of the pullcord (where it should be with the timer base fully advanced against the stop).I followed the instructions to the letter,have I mis understood the procedure? or done something wrong? or could there be another factor like a sheared flywheel key?.The engine does start and run on muffs but won't tickover(possibly related),I want to be sure the wot timing is correct as I don't want to ruin a good motor,thanks in advance for all advice.
