Hello

I have this Johnson Endeavour 3cyl 35 hp 1997 (not the best outboard, i know:) ) But hopefully it will run this summer.

Last summer it started running uneven and lost its strength/power. I Spreyed it with wd40 and it runs fine til the dock.
Next trip it is the same, runs good on idle but only half power on full throttle, smokes a bit more and unburnt oil comes thru the exhaust.
I can hear when I am in neutral and revs it that it doesnt run as it should, almost as it chokes. I saw now that I have been running on spark plugs without resistors all of last summer, does that matter?
All sparkplugs are evenly wet

I am still using the "inhouse" oil tank as this seams to have been working fine.

Is this a carburator trouble? Running to rich?
Or is it maybe ignition? CDI? Stator? Regulator/rectifier?

Please help me, summer is coming up and and the lady wants to sunbath :)

Best regards//Ulf

Compression and spark test need to be done. And get rid of the oil injection has a high failure rate.

Compression was ok, pretty even between the cylinders and according to my dad OK for an outboard older than 20 years.
Sparks looks good as well. could it be a timing issue?

What is ok compression. Was the spark test done? Probably not a timing issue.

I am not sure how to read or put it actually, but top cylinder was 7,5, middle 6,5 and lower 8,5, I think this is kilos per cubic centimeter :)

spark test was good, great spark on all plugs

Don't know for sure as I don't have one, but from all I've seen and read, looks like a fuel primer to me...
For what it's worth.. LOL

That is an electric valve.-----When you push the key in WHILE CRANKING it opens and fuel is sprayed into the engine for near instant starting.----Much better than choke flappers of days gone by.

Update: I made a new discovery today :) the motor idles ok but is boggin when trying rev on throttle lever/control, but when I rev it by pulling the lever directly on the carb it revs great, why is this? the only difference i can see is that the timer base is not moving when reving on carb. how can it rev good then? :O

Where are the idle mixture screws set at?-----How did you adjust them ?----how many turns out from seated ?----Or what measurement are they set at ?------When you pull the lever on the carburetors is the motor in gear , yes or no ?------Motors will rev easily in nuetral because there is no work to do.

I havnt touched the mixture screws, the carbs only have mixture screws for idle and for LOW what I can find. motor is in neutral when reving on carb but so it is when I rev on the throttle control, but then it bogs down.

Yes I know what the carburetors look like on those motors.---Have a bunch of those motors for parts.------Perhaps YOU need to look into the adjustment of those mixture screws.
