Where can I find an engine rebuild kit for a late 80's Johnson 35 hp? I can't find one as a whole kit. Is this something available or will I have to order the parts piece meal?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, bk

I honestly don't know if such a kit exists, but it it were me, I'd tear it down and see what it needs first, and go from there. Actually I have never bought a rebuild kit but ordered the parts it actually needs. Maybe that's just me. Not to say I would never buy a kit if that's the best deal

F_R. The reason I'm looking for a kit is to see what parts are normally needed. I've never rebuilt an engine before. I'd like to give this one a go. I just don't really know which parts are normally replaced.

(should post your model number.)

Full rebuilds are common but not routine -- normally some discovery work to determine a rebuild is needed. Serious compression loss or broken ring(s), maybe something similar? Maybe water ingested?

Exactly why I say don't order parts till you examine it to see what it needs.

Haha F_R gave you some real pearls of wisdom there.
You should also be able to order most separate parts you may need on here. Thats the first motor i ever worked on too.
Its not complicated (none are really, they just get heavier) but do make sure you video or photograph where every little thing goes first as otherwise you will be at a loss when reinstalling.
Also drop the LU first, this makes it much easier
