johnson 25hp lower unit compatibility

Lower unit got trashed and the case broke.What other horse power motors will be compatible with a 25 hp johnson?

What year do you have? Is it thru-propeller hub exhaust or not? The non-thru hubs go way back into the 1950's, 18-20-25hp. If it's similar in size it will work.....Unless I am missing something concerning the newest ones.

I just put a 1988 20hp lower on my mid 90's 35. Both are 2 cylinder.

Yup, you have to tell us the year. The 25 hp switched to thru-hub exhaust in 1985 (I believe). Any 20-35 hp with thru-hub exhaust from the mid 1980's (1978 for the 35 hp) into the 1990's should work.

Yup, you have to tell us the year. The 25 hp switched to thru-hub exhaust in 1985 (I believe). Any 20-35 hp with thru-hub exhaust from the mid 1980's (1978 for the 35 hp) into the 1990's should work.
