Hello,

I recently inherited a Johnson 25h J25REEB motor with boat and am not sure if I should be mixing Oil with the gas in the fuel tank or not. I've ran several tanks with just pure premium gas without oil but the last time I took it out it started to smoke out the water.

Does anyone know if this type of motor requires gas and oil mixed together?? I did not receive an owners manaual so I'm stuck on this one.

Any help would be appreciated.

The motor is a 2 stroke Must have 50:1 fuel mix.2.6 ozs per gallon.
Very bad to run without.
I'm surprised it lasted through several tanks. It should be rattleing about now, ready for a comeplete overhaul. Not sure what your smoke is unless the pump has failed and it is over heating also very bad.

YES OIL,I dont know how you managed to run it that much without oil.You need a 50-1 mix.that would be a pint to 6 gallons of gas, sold in gas stations, auto stores, walmart, dont run it again without,I cant believe no damage done, you want to get oil/gas in there asap.let us know how it runs, perhaps there was enough residual oil in the remaining gas in the tank to save you, truth is,the engines can run on less oil, some are recommended at 100-1,but mechanics recommend the 50-1,that is not to mean your will be 100-1,I know the newer 9.9 are ,but we suggest 50-1.Yrs back,in the 60's and earlier i was 25 to 1,those engines looked like crop dusters

Re: Johnson 25h Oil Mix question

Hi Guys,

I appreciate the quick responses on this one.. don't I feel like an idiot. :(
There are no stickers showing it needs oil mixed in, but then I wanted to make sure. I'll make sure I mix oil right away and test it out again to ensure it is still functioning. I'm worried though that I may have damaged something internally, anyway to know if I royally screwed it up?
