johnson 2.5 hp telltail

hi iv just bought a brand new 2.5 hp johnson motor,but unlike other outboards iv had in the past this one doesnt appear to have the telltail for the cooling system,so how do i know if its cooling properly ?

A brand new 2007....
There should be an indicator coming out of the midsection.

So, didn't you get an owner's manual with that new motor? My guess is that water will spray out the exhaust relief. The book will tell.

thanks for the replies
yes the guy in the shop told me that the exhaust vent was the telltail as does the manual,but it only sprays water out not like other engines that have a steady flow from underneath the engine casing...

maybe this is just the way modern tech is nowadays....!!!

pls could you confirm that im just being toooo cautious....

You are NOT being too cautious! I check the tell-tale pretty frequently when I'm on the water....

sorry if i sound stupid, but i would expect a steady flow of water not just a spitting type spray of water ... unless there are other outlets below the water line...?

I would think it would just be a spray, since it is an exhaust relief port and not a little pee tube.
If the motor is not getting hot, then the water pump is working correctly.

seems to be working fine,but i think that the peetube system would be easier to check,out of interest do other small 4 stroke motors have the same system???
