Re: Johnson 1962 40HP (RK-24?) no spark at plugs

As was previously mentioned, it's time to troubleshoot the 2 black motor kill wires. If you disconnect the 2 black wires (one from each point set) and meter them with an ohm meter, you should find the pair 'open circuit', this is normal in the run position. The ignition switch shorts (connects) these 2 black wires together when you stop the motor. The black wires when shorted, effectively connect both point sets together , killing the spark to both cylinders at the same time.

NOTE: With the black kill wires disconnected , you will have to choke the motor to stop it from running.

If the flywheel key is NOT sheared or partially sheared, your motor should be 'in time'.

Did you remove the coils to inspect them? (more info follows if you did)
Have you checked the point gap for .020
Are the point set contact surfaces clean?
What fuel mix ratio are running?
What type of spark tester are you using and describe exactly how you did the spark test.
Using a spray bottle, spray a couple of shots of FUEL MIX directly into the carb throat. If it fires for a few seconds, You have a fuel delivery problem unrelated to the no spark issue.
