I have a 17' Boston Whaler with an evinrude 90 HP. It needs an engine rebuild. I can get a great deal on a Johnson 175 HP. I know it is way more power than needed, but is it possible, especially if it is a couple thousnad cheaper than any rebuilt 90 HP I have seen? Thanks for the advice.

I would do it if I didn't have kids using it! Couldn't weigh any more than my 90 + 8+ bracket.

Dan

I bet you its a leftover early ficht that hasnt been updated. There is a dealer over on lake erie that has a stack of them he cant peddle. Just wondering. I believe your whaler is only rated for 115, earlyier 17 whalers were only rated for 100. sounds scarry.

I think it is around 1987 175 HP Johnson and weighs aprox 370 lbs.

Yeah, thats the old 2.6 liter. Kinda getting hard to find parts for and pretty heavy.

Far too much power for your Whaler, DrPolo. It is rated for 100HP Maximum.

Though the weight is pretty close for a carbed Johnny 175, if it is a Ficht it weighs more like 405lb, which is at the transom recommended maximum weight limit for twin engines.

Good luck. :)
