I have been on a steep learning curve recently with alarm lights coming up. After iboat research and hands on stuff I have learnt I have had a water in fuel alarm, why isn't that the fifth light on the dash??? I have replaced the fuel filter, will replace the water sensor shortly (do they give false readings?) have ran the engine in a tank no probs soon as I hit the water I get the alarm am I right in thinking the water takes a while- like a couple of days- to settle to the sensor? My next step is to drain the tank and replace the fuel but I'm thinking the water/crud/etc is right on the bottom, short of replacing the tank is there something you can get to dissipate the contaminants?
cheers

David, I never heard of an outboard haveing a water in the fuel alarm, as part of the maunfacturer's eforts. I suppose there may be some aftermarket alarms, although I never came across one. However the solution is the same.

Prop up the boat so the water/crud will sink to the lowest point of the tank, usually the rear corner. Next remove the sender, and stick a siphon or hand pump into the bottom of the tank and pump it out from the bottom. Third, install a water seperator/filter.

Thanks Chris, looking at the diagnostics it was 37 which is water in fuel. I drained the tank, sure enough there were the bubbles and misc. junk. At least I know the size of the tank now!
