Hello, I have recently acquired another Johnson motor but the identification plate is missing. What I am assuming is that it is a 150 between the years of 84-88? I tried looking through the johnson book but the only location besides the nameplate that it said to look yeiled this number: 0432164. I am not sure if that is the serial number or not? Does this look like a johnson serial number? Is there any other way to figure out what this motor really is? I only figured this is a 150 through the years above by checking things that was on the motor that had omc part numbers like the power packs. Any help would be appreiciated!

Thank you for your time,
Jessie0007

Re: Johnson 150 identification?

Is the engine equipped with a VRO pump? Is the exhaust baffle plate (large plate between the cylinder heads) flat or does it bulge outwards?

Look for a core plug (looks like a small quarter size freeze out plug) on the powerhead. It may be on top of the block near the port (left) cylinder head gasket. That core plug may have the model and serial number on it. If so, what are they?

I will have to get back to you on the first part but as for the previous number I pulled that from that quarter size plate, I think it had a symbol of an "M" on it too. Again the number on that round plate was, 0432164.

Thanks,
Jessie

Re: Johnson 150 identification?

Welcome Jessie! Are there any wires on the VRO/fuel pump? My 1985 J150 has no wires on the VRO for warning of a malfunction. Later models had wires. Then again the previous owner may have swapped out the VRO with a newer one.
