Re: Johnson 150 GT shift rod adjustment
It's not hard to do, but its got to dead right. Measured from the top surface of the gearcase(the part of the gearcase that mates to the leg of the engine)to the top of the offset on the top of the shift shaft. Long shaft(20") should be 22 13/32" +- 1/32". Exlong shaft(25") should be 27 13/32" +- 1/32". You measure this in neutral with the offset at the top of the shift shaft facing forward. This has to be dead nuts on or they won't shift right. The easiest thing to do is when you take them out is to remember how many turns it took to get it loose. Each turn is worth about 1/32".

This info came from a 1990 OMC shop manual for a 225hp. The gearcases are interchangeable so the measurement should be the same. If for some reason it's not adjusting easily into the range then you may need to check the exact specs for you engine.
