Replaced power pack
Replaced regulator/rectifier

Stator yellow & Yellow brown ohm out

Can someone suggest a definitive test to check the stator on this motor (with expected values)? I thought I was supposed to have about 500 ohms across the stator input pins but looks like I have a lot less when it is not connected.

I don't have a dva multimeter but can get one if I really have to.

Thanks,

I suggest you start with the CDI trouble shooting guide on page 44 find the steps for troubleshooting. You will need to get the DVA meter for further in depth troubleshooting. Have you disconnected the yellow and black (stop circuit) wire from the power pack to see if you get fire?

A good output test is for cranking volts. Measured between the A and B poles of the stator with a special "peak-reading" voltmeter. When cranked with a strong battery, you are looking for minimum of 150 volts.

Thanks, I was not able to check the cranking RPM (how do you do that?) but I did get to step 5. The resistance between the terminals A&B jumps around 0 not 480ohms. Can I do this check on the bench with nothing attached to the stator. If I don't get ~500ohms do I need a new stator?

Thanks again

Thanks emdsapmgr, is the peak reading meter a dva type? any thoughts on where I may get one? I am betting a new stator will cost about the same as the meter.

Ive got one of the adapters or I use a oscilloscope from work. They do the same thing and thats measure peak to peak voltage of the AC sine wave. The DVA adapter is a unit that plugs into a standard multimeter and reads peak voltage when the multimeter is set on DC. The adapter is around $25 and saves you that much money plus some in parts swapping.
