Hi all, I just bought a 115 Johnson ocean pro from 2000/2001. The guy said that it wasn’t running right. We checked compression on all four cylinders and all are fine. Then we replaced plugs, power pack, coils, stator and optical sensor but still no joy. Weird thing is that when you run the engine, 3 of the plugs still look new as though they’re not firing. We’ve cleaned the carbs a couple of times but still nothing.

Any ideas? What would you check next?

thanks

Doubt that the motor would run on 1 cylinder.-----Time for some organized trouble shooting.

Thanks. Sparks seem good on all plugs. We’ve been focusing on that for a few weeks but it hasn’t solved it. The strange thing is that 3/4 plugs look brand new still…that’s what’s confusing us!

Seems maybe your 4th plug is fouling out.
You have spark but how strong is it on that cylinder.
You may be passing more fuel than needed in that cylinder as well.
Keep digging

Outline the colors of the wires going from the powerpack to the coils.---What is the stripe color going to cylinder #1 , #2 , #3 , #4 ?-----Is the lever on the ELECTRIC PRIMER VALVE in the run position ?

I would check the plugs to see if you are getting fuel. If you are then you are not getting spark. Pull spark plug wires off put a screw driver in plug boat put the screw driver on a good ground to see if you have spark or not. Might not be getting good connection on spark plug

This is probably what's going on.
