Re: Jetski motor in a jon boat.

Looked into this a couple of years ago and found a site that showed some builds in progress, using small jon boats. Problem was crap/debris fouling the pump pickup at slow speeds...maybe they've found a way to cure that by now.

I had that problem and then I installed a 1/4 inch square mesh wire under the intake grate that stopped the sucking of rocks at slow speed in shallow water. Any leaves that get caught on the screen usually wash off when I stop the engine as I almost always boat upstream against the current. By going upstream against the current, if you have a engine or pump problem you always float down to where you put in. WALA NO PROBLEM!

Re: Jetski motor in a jon boat.

If anyone is still following this thread, I bought a 16ft aluminum boat with an inboard jetski motor on it. It is very nimble in the water, and I can do 40-45mph without a ton of weight in the boat. I have it set up with oars so that I can use it like a powerdrifter. It is great on gas, I can go all day on 3 gallons. The only problem is that it is a little noisy, and with the powerdrifter set up I dont get a windshield either. Ive had this boat for a couple years and it has been great. The guy I bought it from builds a couple of them every year and has put a lot of time into perfecting his hull design, and even though my boat only has about 70-80 hp at the pump, It still performs great. I can round up some photos if anyone is interested.

Re: Jetski motor in a jon boat.

i did this a few years ago using a 12ft jon and a 140hp 951cc seadoo engine. the engine only weighs around 120# all together..Holeshot was unreal.. 0-60 in a few seconds.
would run in scary skinny water too
The trick is getting the intake set up correct. If its not just right you will suck mad air and cavitate... a scoop intake grate is a must

Re: Jetski motor in a jon boat.

Well, I am trying to upload pics, but my pictures are over a MB, and the upload says it will only alow 97kb. I have some pictures on a classified ad online, would it be okay for me to post the link in this forum? I dont want to come across as if I am just using this forum to sell my boat... Or if someone knows how to shrink a jpg file, let me know. Or if someone has an email I can send a couple photos, then someone else up load them. Let me know.

from the looks it seems like an older yami or kawasaki with the oil injection system blockoff ..
nice work. I like the diamond plate

It looks like the pump has a trim ring on it?
